Voting in the 2025 Federal Election

Elections are a powerful way to shape the future of our communities, campuses, and country, and we encourage all members of the university to exercise their democratic right and responsibility to vote. With the federal election concluding April 28th, please take a moment to check your registration and make a plan to vote.

Vote on Campus Program, April 13 -16th

Elections Canada has worked with UBC to facilitate a polling station on the UBC Vancouver and Okanagan Campuses from Sunday, April 13 through Wednesday April 16 as part of its cross-country Vote on Campus program. This program allows any eligible member of the university community to vote early via a special ballot.

UBC community members can cast ballots in their home ridings at Vote on Campus locations. Elections Canada officials will be available at voting locations to provide a ballot and, if requested, a list of all candidates for an elector’s specific home riding.

Proof of identification and home address are all that are required to register to vote at the polling station.

Their offices are open seven days a week:

  • Monday to Friday: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Saturday: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Sunday: noon to 4 p.m.

Advance Voting, April 18 – 21st

Advance polling stations are open for four days, Friday April 18th to Monday April 21st from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The rules for voting on advance polling days in the federal election differ from those of some provincial elections, where you can vote at any advance voting place in the province. You cannot do the same in the federal election. If you choose to vote during advance polling days, you must vote at your assigned polling station. To find your advance polling station, check your voter information card or use the Voter Information Service.

Alternatively, Vote by Mail is also available. In this option Elections Canada mails you a special ballot voting kit that includes everything you need to vote. You fill out your ballot and mail it back to Elections Canada using a pre-addressed return envelope with prepaid postage. Your ballot must be received by election day and you must apply online for your ballot by Tuesday April 22nd  at 6 pm.

Election Day, April 28th

Electors can vote at their assigned polling station on Election Day on Monday April 28th. You can find your voting location by checking your voter information card or visiting elections.ca. Polls will be open from 7 am – 7 pm.
